Frequently Asked Questions — Baldwin County School Closings

How does Baldwin County Public Schools announce school closings?

BCBE posts closure and delay notices on its official website, bcbe.org, and sends them to families through the announcements and emergency notifications it sends to the contact information families keep current with their child's school. We could not find a fixed announcement time on bcbe.org, so check bcbe.org and your school's own announcements on mornings with severe weather. The district's August 2026 welcome letter asks families to keep their contact information current with their child's school so they receive announcements and emergency notifications.

Why do Baldwin County schools close?

BCBE decides for itself whether to close, delay or stay open, and this page does not make that decision. The page shows active National Weather Service alerts for Baldwin County, such as tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, tropical storm and hurricane alerts, because severe storms, flooding and tropical systems can disrupt travel and school operations along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Always confirm the decision with the district.

Do local news stations report Baldwin County school closings?

Local news outlets may also report school closures, but this page does not depend on any single station. It checks official district sources and shows one consolidated status. Always confirm with your district.

Does BCBE close individual schools or the whole district?

Either can happen. A closure can apply to all schools in a district or to a single campus. This page shows district-level status, so confirm an individual school's status on bcbe.org or with the school directly.

How often is this Baldwin County school closings page updated?

Our monitor checks district feeds, local news sources and NWS alerts about every 10 to 15 minutes, and this page refreshes on its own while it is open. The last-checked time is shown on screen, and you can use "Refresh now" at any time.

What is the difference between a school closing and a school delay in Baldwin County?

A closing means in-person classes are cancelled for the day. A delay means school starts later than normal. An early dismissal means school opens as usual but students are sent home early. This page labels each status separately for every district.
