How Boise School Closings Are Announced

Boise School District (BSD) posts school closing and delay notices on its official website, boiseschools.org, and notifies families through ParentSquare text and email messages, mobile app alerts, its website and social media. Keep your contact details current with the district so alerts reach you.

Local news outlets are secondary sources. This page checks official district sources and local news and shows the combined status in one place. It is not an official district announcement, so always confirm with your district.

Frequently Asked Questions — Boise School Closings

How does Boise School District announce school closings?

BSD posts closure and delay notices on its official website, boiseschools.org, and sends them to families through ParentSquare text and email messages, mobile app alerts, its website and social media. BSD's School Safety & Weather Procedures page says that if school is cancelled, families are notified by ParentSquare text and email, Boise School District mobile app alerts, the district website, individual school websites, district social media, and local television and radio, and that ParentSquare is the district's primary direct communication tool (source: boiseschools.org, School Safety & Weather Procedures page, read 2026-10-12).

Why do Boise schools close?

BSD decides for itself whether to close, delay or stay open, and this page does not make that decision. The district's School Safety & Weather Procedures page says school may be cancelled if travel conditions are unsafe or schools cannot operate safely because of citywide weather, that normal winter conditions such as light snow or cold mornings do not typically close school, and that ice is the most common reason for closures. It also says closure decisions are made with local partners, including transportation agencies, the weather bureau, highway districts and law enforcement, and that a closure applies to the entire district (source: boiseschools.org, School Safety & Weather Procedures page, read 2026-10-12). This page shows active National Weather Service alerts for Ada County, such as winter storm, ice, snow, cold and heat alerts. Always confirm the decision with the district.

Do local news stations report Boise school closings?

Local news outlets may also report school closures, but this page does not depend on any single station. It checks official district sources and shows one consolidated status. Always confirm with your district.

Does BSD close individual schools or the whole district?

Either can happen. A closure can apply to all schools in a district or to a single campus. This page shows district-level status, so confirm an individual school's status on boiseschools.org or with the school directly.

How often is this Boise school closings page updated?

Our monitor checks district feeds, local news sources and NWS alerts about every 10 to 15 minutes, and this page refreshes on its own while it is open. The last-checked time is shown on screen, and you can use "Refresh now" at any time.

What is the difference between a school closing and a school delay in Boise?

A closing means in-person classes are cancelled for the day. A delay means school starts later than normal. An early dismissal means school opens as usual but students are sent home early. This page labels each status separately for every district.
