📢 Important Service Notices & Alerts

  • NYC Parking Suspension: Alternate Side Parking (ASP) is SUSPENDED today, Friday, March 20, and tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, in observance of Eid al-Fitr (Idul-Fitr). Parking meters remain in effect.

  • Michigan State of Emergency: A state of emergency remains active for several northern counties (including Alpena, Delta, and Wexford) following the massive mid-March ice storm. Residents in these areas have until April 30 to meet state tax deadlines normally due today.

  • Library Staff In-Service: Several regional library systems (including Warren and various Mid-Atlantic branches) are holding scheduled Staff In-Service days today. Many branches will be CLOSED from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM before reopening for afternoon service.

  • USPS Processing Alert: The USPS reports continued processing and transportation delays in the Great Lakes region (Michigan) and parts of the Mid-Atlantic (PA, NJ, MD) due to the backlog from recent severe weather. First-Class mail may see an additional 1–2 day delivery window.

  • Boston Public Library (BPL): OPEN. Normal Friday schedules are in effect across all neighborhood branches.

  • Regional Alert: Many smaller municipal libraries in the Northeast have Half-Day Closures today (closing until 1:00 PM) for professional development. Check your local branch’s social media before heading out.


🚛 Municipal & Civil Services

Sanitation & Recycling

  • New York City: Collections are ON SCHEDULE. Since today is a religious holiday (ASP suspended) but not a legal city holiday, trash pickup proceeds as normal.

  • Philadelphia: ON SCHEDULE. All Friday routes are being collected.

  • Boston: ON SCHEDULE. No delays reported for Friday pickups.

  • Michigan (Emergency Zones): Collections remain suspended or severely delayed in counties under the state of emergency due to downed trees and power lines.

Parking Enforcement

  • New York City: Alternate Side Parking is SUSPENDED. You do not need to move your car for the street sweeper today.

  • Boston & Philadelphia: Normal parking rules are in effect. Meters and time limits are being strictly enforced.

United States Postal Service (USPS)

  • Delivery Status: Active nationwide, with the exception of specific “Red Zones” in Northern Michigan where roads remain impassable.

  • National Notice: The USPS has issued a proposed rule (March 19) regarding the discontinuation of certain Priority Mail Express parcel services starting in July; retail windows are currently open to discuss alternative shipping options with business customers.
