School Activities & Events Today: February 28, 2026

Welcome to Championship Saturday! As we close out February, U.S. school campuses are reaching a fever pitch. Today is one of the biggest days of the year for winter sports, with many athletes competing for state titles and a spot in history.

Here is everything you need to know about what’s happening on campus today.

1. πŸ“ National Testing Update

There is no national SAT or ACT test date today, February 28.

  • The Good News: Students have a “testing-free” weekend to focus on sports, arts, or a much-needed mental break.

  • Mark Your Calendars: The next national SAT test date is Saturday, March 14. If your student is registered for that date, now is a great time to start those weekend practice sessions!

2. πŸ€ Winter Sports: The “Final Four” Push

We are officially in the “Win or Go Home” phase of the winter season.

  • Basketball: In states like Florida (FHSAA) and Georgia (GHSA), today is “Regional Final” day for many boys’ divisions. Winners today punch their tickets to the State Semifinals next week!

  • Wrestling State Championships: This is the pinnacle for many wrestlers. States like California (CIF) and New York (NYSPHSAA) are concluding their State Individual Championships today. The energy in these arenas is unmatched.

  • Swimming & Diving: Look for State Meet action in states like Illinois (IHSA) for boys’ swimming, where the fastest qualifiers in the state are competing for podium spots today.

3. 🎨 Arts & Academic Competitions

  • Robotics (FIRST & VEX): We are in the heart of “Regional Qualifier” season. Many high school gyms are hosting high-tech battles as teams try to secure their spots for the State Championships in March.

  • Speech & Debate: Many districts are holding “Final Qualifiers” today for state speech tournaments. If you see students in suits carrying heavy folders at your local high school, they are likely competing in forensic speaking or debate!

  • Solo & Ensemble: This is the final weekend for many music departments to host their judged performances. Check your local school calendar if your student is a musician!

4. 🏫 Community & Rec League Activity

  • Youth Sports Hubs: With most “Rec Leagues” winding down their winter seasons, school gyms are booked solid from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM for youth basketball and volleyball playoffs.

  • Early Spring Prep: In warmer climates (Texas, Arizona, Florida), you’ll see the first Baseball and Softball “Scrimmage Days” taking place on school fields today as spring sports officially begin their ramp-up.

πŸ—“οΈ Upcoming Week Preview: March 2nd

As we head into Monday, March 2, most school districts are operating on a normal schedule.

  • Note: Some districts observe Read Across America Day on Monday! Check if your elementary student needs to wear pajamas or dress up as a favorite book character.

  • Daily Monitoring: We will be back at 5:00 AM Monday to monitor for any transit updates or localized weather delays.
