School Bus Cancellations Today (February 23, 2026)

A massive and potentially historic Nor’easter, being dubbed the “Blizzard of ’26,” is causing widespread school bus cancellations and full district closures across the Northeastern United States and parts of Canada for Monday, February 23, 2026.

Over 30 million people are currently under Blizzard Warnings as the storm “bombs out,” bringing up to 2 feet of snow and 60 mph winds to major corridors.

🇺🇸 USA: Major Blizzard Disruptions

The I-95 corridor from Philadelphia to Boston is the hardest hit.

Massachusetts & New Hampshire

  • Boston Public Schools: Closed. Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a snow emergency; all school buildings and bus services are suspended.

  • Widespread Closures: Nearly all districts in Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire (including Manchester and Nashua) have pre-emptively cancelled classes for Monday.

New York & New Jersey

  • New York City (NYCPS): Schools have moved to fully remote learning for Monday. No school buses are running.

  • New Jersey: Widespread closures in Newark, Jersey City, and coastal districts. Blizzard warnings are in effect for the Jersey Shore with expected “whiteout” conditions.

Pennsylvania & Delaware

  • Philadelphia (SDP): Schools are Closed. The city is bracing for 12–18 inches of snow.

  • Delaware: Most districts in New Castle County have cancelled bus services and moved to remote instruction.

🇨🇦 Canada: Regional Cancellations

While the US faces a blizzard, parts of Ontario are dealing with the aftermath of an ice storm and ongoing labour disruptions.

Ontario

  • North Bay & Nipissing (NPSSTS): Service Alert. A potential strike by Alouette Bus Lines drivers may disrupt 67 routes starting today, Feb 23. Impacted areas include North Bay, Redbridge, and West Nipissing.

  • Southern Ontario: After the heavy freezing rain on Feb 18-20, most GTA boards (TDSB, YRDSB) have resumed service, but rural routes in Dufferin-Peel and Simcoe County are reporting delays due to icy secondary roads.

  • Ottawa Valley: Minor delays (15–30 minutes) reported due to blowing snow.

Manitoba (Winnipeg)

  • St. James-Assiniboia School Division: Expect ongoing “spotty” cancellations. The division issued an apology over the weekend for continued bus driver shortages, which are expected to cause last-minute cancellations this morning.
