School Calendars Today (February 24, 2026)
Today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, is not a US Federal Holiday. Presidents’ Day was observed last Monday (Feb 16), and most “Mid-Winter Recess” breaks across the country concluded yesterday.
Since this is a standard school day for the vast majority of US students, we are following the Upcoming Deadlines format to keep you on track with enrollment and testing requirements.
- School Closings and Delays Today (March 4, 2026)
- School Calendars Today (March 4, 2026)
- School Bus & City Transit Cancellations: USA and Canada (March 4, 2026)

Upcoming Deadlines (Standard Day)
Immediate Deadlines
This week is a critical window for school choice and kindergarten registrations for the 2026-2027 academic year:
-
New York City (NYC DOE): The deadline for 3-K and Pre-K applications is this Friday, February 27, 2026. If you haven’t submitted your choices in MySchools, now is the time.
-
Seattle Public Schools: Following last week’s break, School Choice results are being released via The Source starting today, February 24.
-
Cherry Creek School District (CO): The “Priority Round” for School Choice closes this Friday, February 27, 2026. Applications submitted after this date will be added to waitlists.
-
Philadelphia: Weekly waitlist offers for the School Selection process continue to be released every Monday; check your portal if you are still seeking a placement.
Testing Windows
While heavy state testing (like the SAT or general state assessments) typically ramps up in April, several “pre-testing” and specialized windows are active now:
-
Texas (STAAR): The TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) and STAAR Alternate 2 preview windows are currently open. Schools are assessing English language learners and preparing for the primary STAAR window in April.
-
National (NAEP): The National Assessment of Educational Progress window is active through early March for selected sample schools (Grades 4 and 8).
-
New York: Many high schools are conducting mock Regents exams this week to gauge student progress following the mid-winter break.
District-Specific Highlights
Here is what’s happening in the Top 5 largest districts this week:

-
Los Angeles Unified (LAUSD): Open. Regular schedule.
