School Calendars Today (March 2, 2026)
Today, Monday, March 2, 2026, is not a US Federal Holiday. While earlier in February we observed Presidents’ Day, today is a standard school day for the vast majority of the United States.
However, in Illinois, today is Casimir Pulaski Day. While many state and county offices are closed, most large districts (including Chicago Public Schools) now remain open to maximize instructional time, though some smaller suburban districts may still observe the holiday with a closure.
Upcoming Deadlines (Standard Day)
As we enter the first week of March, the focus shifts heavily toward enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year and the final “push” before Spring Break.
Immediate Deadlines
-
Tomball ISD (Texas): Today marks the official opening of New Student Registration for Kindergarten for all campuses.
-
Seattle Public Schools: Following the Feb 24 release of choice results, families who missed the initial window can still submit late School Choice applications starting this week (running through March 31), though they are no longer eligible for tiebreakers.
-
NYC Public Schools: Kindergarten offers are typically processed this month; parents should check their MySchools accounts for updates on waitlists and registration next steps.
Testing Windows
-
Texas (STAAR): While the main testing window isn’t until April, the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) window is currently active (Feb 16 – March 27). Districts are also permitted to begin “previewing” STAAR Alternate 2 materials starting today.
-
New York (Regents): No exams are scheduled for March. Schools are currently in a heavy instruction phase to prepare for the June 2026 Regents period (starting June 9).
-
Statewide Screener: In many districts, this week marks the beginning of spring “benchmark” or “screener” testing to track student progress before the end of Q3.
