New Hanover County Schools will close its Summer Ignite program at Snipes Elementary and Lake Forest Academy, as well as Freedom School at Gregory Elementary and Williston Middle School on Thursday. All curbside grab-and-go meal locations will be closed as well. The district expects a normal schedule on Friday.
Brunswick County Schools will close all its summer learning sites on Thursday. Teachers, summer school support staff, bus drivers, custodians, and CN staff should not report to work.
A district spokesperson says 12-month employees should report on a two-hour delay if they feel they can safely get to work; or take the day off as a non-required workday.
Curbside meal service is also cancelled for Thursday. It will resume Monday, July 12.
Due to legislative requirements for Summer Learning Programs to be 150 instructional hours, schools will add 10 minutes to the start of the day and 10 minutes to the end of the day to meet the state requirements starting Monday. This will make up for time lost from weather-related closings.
Beginning Monday, bus riders’ pickup time will be 10 minutes earlier, and drop off time will be 10 minutes later.
All locations resume their schedules on Friday, July 9, unless instructed otherwise.
Brunswick Community College and Brunswick Senior Resource Center will be closed on Thursday, July 8 and will resume normal operations on Friday, July 9.
Pender County Schools will not hold summer learning on Thursday. All students are to return to campus on Friday, July 9, to conclude the summer learning schedule. Further instructions will be issued Wednesday evening to on-site teachers and staff regarding Thursday’s work schedule.
Bladen County Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday. As Bladen County schools and offices are closed Friday for summer operating hours, normal operations will resume Monday, July 12.
