The phone calls and radio announcements came early, as they do every year. A big storm was headed our way, and some schools would be closed due to snow-covered roads and the threat of ice. We have all lived in Virginia long enough to know that this isn’t odd, but a yearly ritual. We have also learned that the predicted snowfall or ice threat often doesn’t materialize, and even when school is cancelled, most of us have the luxury of staying home and working from there.
