Will There Be School Tomorrow? (Feb 24, 2026)

Today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, is not a U.S. Federal Holiday. It is a standard operational day for schools, government offices, and businesses across the country.

A historic and catastrophic blizzard, referred to by many as the “Blizzard of 2026,” continues to paralyze the Eastern United States. While the primary snowfall ended for some early this morning, the infrastructure damage and residual hazards are immense.

Current Risk Map: Top 3 High-Risk Zones

  1. The Northeast Corridor (NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA): Though the “Snow Ending” line is pushing offshore, Blizzard Warnings and Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for many as cleanup begins. Records have been shattered with 2–3 feet of snow across the megalopolis.

  2. The Pacific Northwest & Northern California: A long-duration Atmospheric River is impacting the coast. Flood Watches and Winter Storm Warnings are active as heavy rain at lower elevations and massive snow in the mountains (Sierra Nevada/Cascades) threaten to cause landslides and road closures.

  3. The Mid-Atlantic Coast: Coastal Flood Warnings are active from Delaware to Cape Cod. A storm surge of 2–4 feet combined with high tides is inundating low-lying roads.

Travel Impact

Travel is extremely difficult to impossible throughout the Northeast.

  • I-95 Corridor: Numerous sections remain impassable due to abandoned vehicles and unplowed drifts.

  • Power Outages: Widespread outages (affecting millions) have disabled traffic signals and rail lines (Amtrak/Commuter rail).

  • Pacific Northwest: High-elevation passes are under strict traction requirements or are closed due to avalanche risks.

Safety Tip

Post-Blizzard Shoveling Safety: If you are clearing snow today in the Northeast, take frequent breaks. This is “heart-attack snow”—heavy and wet. Overexertion in cold temperatures can put a dangerous strain on your heart. Always shovel in small increments rather than trying to lift deep piles at once.

For the most current information on school closings or delays in specific areas, it’s advisable to check local news outlets or official school district communications.
