Will There Be School Tomorrow? (Mar 21, 2026)

Today, Saturday, March 21, 2026, is a weekend day and not a US Federal Holiday. However, we are currently in the peak of Spring Break 2026.

  • Active Breaks: Major districts including Anaheim Union, Anaheim Elementary, and Cypress School District officially began their Spring Break today (March 21–29).

  • Travel Advisory: While schools are closed, we emphasize safety for families traveling to hotspots like Cancun, Miami, and South Padre Island, which are at peak capacity this weekend.

📢 Important District News & Announcements

  • Chicago (IL): The Chicago School Board has formally voted to shutter two high schools in the ASPIRA charter network; hundreds of students have already transitioned to Carl Schurz and other district campuses.

  • San Jose (CA): Proposals are currently active to close up to nine elementary schools in the county’s largest district due to declining enrollment; parent town halls are ongoing.

  • Collier County (FL): Today is “Collier County Day” at the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium—a major community event for CCPS families.

  • Washington State: A Do Not Drink order remains in effect for Whitstran Elementary School due to elevated nitrate levels; bottled water protocols are in place for all campus activities.

Current Risk Map: Top 3 Danger Zones

  1. Hawaii (Oahu – North Shore): 🔴 EXTREME RISK. Life-threatening flash flooding is occurring. Officials have issued evacuation orders for over 4,000 residents north of Honolulu due to the imminent risk of failure of the 120-year-old Wahiawa Dam.

  2. The High Plains (WY, NE, CO, SD): 🟠 CRITICAL FIRE RISK. Red Flag Warnings are active through tonight. Record-breaking heat (20–40°F above average) combined with 45 mph gusts and 8% humidity has created “extreme and unpredictable” fire behavior conditions.

  3. The Southwest (AZ, CA border): 🟡 EXTREME HEAT. A historic late-winter heatwave has shattered records, with Martinez Lake, AZ hitting a staggering 110°F. This is the hottest March temperature in US history.

Travel Impact

  • Oahu, HI: Severe flooding and mudslides have swallowed vehicles and washed away roads. All non-essential travel on the North Shore is strictly prohibited.

  • Northern Rockies/High Plains: Strong downslope winds off the Rockies will create dangerous crosswinds for high-profile vehicles (RVs and buses) on I-25 and I-80.

  • Northeast: Rain and freezing rain are moving into the Upper Great Lakes and Upstate New York today, creating slick weekend travel conditions for those heading toward New England.

Safety Tip

Dam Safety & Flooding: If you are in a designated evacuation zone downstream of a dam (like the Wahiawa Dam in Hawaii), leave immediately when the siren sounds. Do not wait to see the water; dam failures happen with a sudden, catastrophic surge that can move faster than a car can drive.
