Mission CISD will cancel classes on Tuesday, according to a message sent to parents.

“Despite the ongoing efforts of the electric companies, some of our campuses are having issues with service interruptions,” Perez wrote. “This is having a ripple effect on our air conditioning systems, internet services, phone systems, and other critical items needed to operate.”

Classes will resume normal schedules on Wednesday. Additionally, Perez also said that STAAR and AP exams scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed.

“We do not take school closure notices lightly, but without appropriate electricity, air conditioning systems running, and internet/phone services connectivity it would be impossible to provide an environment conducive for students to be in class,” Perez said.

As a result of another cancellation of classes, Mission CISD will continue to provide meals at two sites through a partnership with the city of Alton’s community center and the Boys and Girls Club of Mission.

“We know that many of our families depend upon the meals provided in school and based on the numbers that picked up meals today at our two Mission CISD special student meal sites, we are working on providing that service again on Tuesday,” Perez said.

Those sites include:

– Boys and Girls Club of Mission, located at 209 W. 18th St.;

– Alton Recreation Center, located at 349 W. Dawes Ave.

The meals will be available to pick up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Please note that every effort was made to open our schools, to provide instructional continuity for students, while also knowing this would help so many of our working families,” Perez said. “We appreciate your patience and support during this time and look forward to welcoming everyone back Wednesday morning.”
