Tampa Bay Area Tropical Storm Idalia School Closures

With Tropical Storm Idalia approaching the Florida west coast, various school districts are making announcements regarding school closures for this week. As a precaution, Tampa Bay area schools have decided to close. Here’s a list of announcements by counties in the west central Florida area.

Hernando County School District

The Hernando County School District announced the following for all county schools and most district offices:

Schools are closed for Monday, August 28 through Wednesday, August 30. Emergency management has already requested several schools as shelters for the storm.
Pasco-Hernando State College classes have been canceled for Tuesday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 30

Citrus County Schools

Citrus County schools has announced their plans. Schools used as shelters will be made available in the afternoon on Monday, August 28.

Monday will be a half day for students. Dismissal times are:

Elementary Schools at 12:35 p.m.
Middle schools at 11:20 a.m.
High schools at 11:40 a.m.

Furthermore, schools are closed on Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30.

In addition, after-school programs and extra-curricular activities are cancelled, until further notice.
Hillsborough County Schools

Hillsborough County schools will be in session on Monday, August 28. The date is already an early-release day.

County officials continue to watch Tropical Storm Idalia.
Pinellas County Schools

At the last update, Pinellas County schools will be in session Monday. The county will continue to monitor the storm with Emergency Management and will make any announcement via these methods:

Pasco County Schools

Pasco County Schools will be open Monday, August 28, as normal. The county will continue to monitor the storm and will give updates with new information.
Polk County County Schools

Classes in Polk County Public Schools will be in session on Monday, August 28. The county will monitor the situation and work with Emergency Management for any impacts to the county. This includes the need for schools as shelters for evacuees. Find updates on their website and social media accounts.

Manatee County Schools

Manatee County schools will open as planned for Monday, August 28. Also, after school activities will be open. Sarasota County Schools

Sarasota County Schools announced on Facebook that schools will be open Monday, August 28. The county will continue to monitor the storm.
