South Florida schools cancel classes

Some school systems in South Florida are closing due to Subtropical Storm Nicole. All of South Florida is in the cone of uncertainty, and models show Nicole could make landfall on the Treasure Coast on Wednesday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency for 34 Florida counties, including the Treasure Coast, Palm Beach county and Okeechobee County. School closures include:

Palm Beach County:

Palm Beach Atlantic University: There will be no in-person classes Tuesday through Friday. Residence halls will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The School District of Palm Beach County was already scheduled to be closed Tuesday for Election Day. Superintendent Mike Burke said the district will be monitoring the weather closely for further closures.

Martin County:

Martin County School District will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Schools were already scheduled to be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

St. Lucie County:

St. Lucie County schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Schools were already scheduled to be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Indian River County:

Indian River County schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Schools were already scheduled to be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
Indian River State College campuses will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. The Nov. 10 Veterans event at the Pruitt Campus will be rescheduled. The college is closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Okeechobee County:

Okeechobee County Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. “It remains too early to tell if we will need to cancel school on Friday,” the district said in a Facebook post.
