Kalamazoo school closed temporarily after water main break

(KALAMAZOO, MI)

Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts closed early today following a water main break.

Classes were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 4 and all afterschool activities were canceled.

Students who ride buses were transported home after the 11:30 a.m. dismissal.

Susan Coney, communications director for Kalamazoo Public Schools, said toilets in the building are currently non-operational and they do not have the capacity to prepare meals.

The school will be following guidance from the city of Kalamazoo on whether the building can be re-opened tomorrow.

“Although we certainly hope we can reopen tomorrow, we will go by their guidance,” Coney said.
