Hurricane Idalia prompts Middle Georgia school closings, schedule changes

CRISP COUNTY SCHOOLS – Due to the expected impact from Hurricane Idalia, Crisp County Schools will be closed Wednesday, August 30, 2023. We will continue to monitor roadway safety for next steps. Safety will continue to be our priority. Thank you and be safe.

DODGE COUNTY – Dodge County Schools will be closed for students, faculty, and staff on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, due to the projected impacts of Hurricane Idalia in Dodge County.

DOOLY COUNTY SCHOOLS – Due to the potential for severe weather tomorrow and out of an abundance caution, Dooly County School System will have an inclement weather day on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Students, faculty, and staff will not report to the schools. All after-school activities are canceled for tomorrow.

DUBLIN CITY SCHOOLS – Following the recommendation of Laurens County EMA, Dublin City Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th. All games, practices, and extracurricular activities scheduled for tomorrow have also been canceled.
Staff can work from home tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN DAY SCHOOL – Due to the potential for heavy rains, flooding, gusting winds, and power outages, school and all scheduled events and practices at First Presbyterian Day School are canceled for Wednesday, August 30.

JOHNSON COUNTY SCHOOLS – After our local Emergency Management Agency meeting along with the National Weather Service, Johnson County Schools will be closed tomorrow August 30, 2023 for students and staff due to weather conditions.

LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOLS – All schools will be closed on Wednesday for students and staff. There will be no after school activities or events.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY SCHOOLS – Montgomery County Schools announced today that Superintendent Dr. Stan Rentz, under the advisement from the local Emergency Management Agency director, has canceled school for Wednesday, August 30. Parents and students are advised to continue monitoring the district website at mcboe.net and the district’s social media channels for updates.

OCONEE FALL LINE TECHNICAL COLLEGE – OFTC will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30, due to the impending storm. Classes will continue today & this evening as normal. The college will reopen under normal operating hours on Thursday.

PULASKI COUNTY SCHOOLS – In the interest of safety for students and staff, Pulaski County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30th.

TELFAIR COUNTY SCHOOLS – Telfair County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, due to the projected impacts of Hurricane Idalia in Telfair County. We plan to resume normal school operations on Thursday.

TREUTLEN COUNTY SCHOOLS – Treutlen County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, as we anticipate the onset of inclement weather due to Hurricane Idalia. We expect to begin receiving wind and rain bands later this evening, and we want to ensure students and staff are safe. School activities today will resume as normal.

WASHINGTON COUNTY SCHOOLS – The Washington County School District has continued our close communication with our local EMA and the National Weather Service regarding Hurricane Idalia. Due to the significant rainfall and gusty winds projected to impact our area, the Washington County Board of Education will shift to an at-home learning model for August 30th. All in-person school related activities will be cancelled for Wednesday. As Wednesday progresses, we will assess the impact on school operations to determine if we will continue virtual learning on Thursday, August 31st.

WILKINSON COUNTY SCHOOLS – No School for Staff & Students tomorrow, August 30.

WHEELER COUNTY SCHOOLS – Wheeler County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30th due to Hurricane Idalia and its projected effects for the Wheeler County area. School district administrators will monitor weather and storm-related situations and provide updates on any further schedule changes for the rest of the week through social media, the district website, and our callout/text system.

WILCOX COUNTY SCHOOLS – Due to anticipated inclement weather, Wilcox County schools will be closed for students and staff tomorrow, 8/30/23. We plan to resume a regular schedule on Thursday, but will notify via text if anything changes.

WILKINSON COUNTY SCHOOLS – Wilkinson County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30th, due to Hurricane Idalia’s projected impact on the area. District administrators will keep a close eye on the weather and related developments and provide updates on social media, the district website, and One Call system. All extracurricular activities, practices, and games have been canceled as well.
